From East Coast to West Coast, a Family Finds Home

Bryan and Samantha relocated from the East Coast to Portland, a move that brought them closer to family and made two grannies very happy. They can now see their grandchild far more often than before.

We started the search remotely. Our approach with out-of-state buyers is to be their eyes on the ground, walking through homes on live video and sharing our honest impressions of condition, layout, and neighborhood. We will video the street and talk about what we hear and smell, not just what we see. If a home has real potential, we follow up with a recorded walkthrough they can watch on their own time and really absorb the space.

While they were wrapping up their home sale and preparing to move west, we made two attempts to get into contract. Both fell through, which is not unusual when a sale contingency is involved, but disappointing all the same. The moment they arrived in Portland, we shifted to in-person tours. The first home they walked through, they knew.

The sellers appreciated their decisiveness and accepted an offer with a contingency and buyer-favorable concessions. The transaction had its share of twists, but this family navigated every one of them without flinching. Between Bryan's 30 lifetime moves and their ability to honestly assess the investment a home like this requires, they never lost sight of what they were getting: a well-loved Bungalow in one of Portland's most walkable neighborhoods, with Hawthorne Street, Mt. Tabor, and Laurelhurst Park all within easy reach.

A pretty great trifecta for a family putting down roots. We are glad to call them friends and glad to welcome them to Portland. If you are moving to Portland from out of state, our Portland relocation guide is a good place to start.
