San Diego Sunshine

Last week my wife, son and I took a two hour non-stop Alaska flight to San Diego for her birthday. I hadn’t been to San Diego before and was delighted by all it had to offer. The 65+ degree weather, blue skies, sunshine kept us smiling. Got in at 10am and found the best fish tacos at Katarina’s Ceviche. With satisfied bellies, we went directly to Coronado Island and rented bikes to cruise around the island with a stop at the Hotel Del Coronado. Our ride was punctuated with stops to admire amazing architecture and guessing how much homes cost on the island, the tiniest cottages started at 1.5 million. Wow, what a coveted location. After touring it we certainly understood why. Found a charming home in Mission Hills to make our home base. I would highly recommend this place if you are searching for a place to stay when visiting San Diego. This home was filled with light and art and made us feel relaxed every time we walked inside it’s blue front door.

The next day we went to La Jolla Beach to meet up with family we haven’t seen in years. Imagine having a beach in your backyard. We were amazed at the number of people out enjoying the surf, sun and sand. Our son is still an avid lego guy at nineteen years of age so we all had a great day checking out the amazing cities at Legoland. Explored the wonders of Balboa park, what a jewel in the heart of the city. Such great people watching and amazing architecture. Took Kim on a sunset sailboat cruise on San Diego bay. What a great vantage point to view sea lions, Navy ships and the Point Loma light house. As photographers too, we were thrilled to be on the water watching the sunset hit the San Diego skyline, stunning.

For a brief respite from rain and cold San Diego served us very very well.
