Where River Views and Community Spirit Shine

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the St. Johns Bridge, Cathedral Park is a neighborhood where historic charm and modern energy flow together. With tree-lined streets, a strong sense of community, and a mix of home styles—including craftsman bungalows, mid-century houses, and newer townhomes—it’s a place that blends the past with the present. The neighborhood centers around its namesake park, a stunning green space along the Willamette River, where locals gather for everything from picnics to concerts. With a Walk Score of 80, it’s easy to explore the area on foot, whether you’re heading to a local coffee shop, browsing St. Johns’ unique boutiques, or enjoying the fresh air along the waterfront.

The St. Johns Bridge isn’t just a landmark—it’s a gateway to adventure. On one side, Cathedral Park offers scenic trails, river access, and some of the best sunrise views in the city. On the other, it connects residents to Sauvie Island, known for its farm stands and natural beauty. Just beyond the bridge, the Smith and Bybee Wetlands Natural Area provides a peaceful retreat where kayakers and birdwatchers take in the sights. St. Johns’ bustling main street adds a lively touch, with locally-owned businesses, cozy cafés, and an arts scene that reflects the neighborhood’s creative spirit. It’s no surprise that so many musicians, painters, and writers call this area home—the inspiration is everywhere.

Though Cathedral Park offers a quiet riverside escape, it’s well-connected to the rest of the city. Downtown Portland is about a 22-minute drive, while bike-friendly streets and 2.7 miles of bike routes make cycling a great option. The neighborhood’s close-knit vibe makes it easy to feel at home, whether you’re a longtime resident or new to the area. With the shops and dining of St. Johns, the beauty of Forest Park nearby, and the convenience of quick access to Highway 30, Cathedral Park is one of Portland’s best-kept secrets—but not for long.
