Linnton Sits Along Highway 30 With the River on One Side and Forest Park Rising Up on the Other

Linnton occupies a narrow strip of Northwest Portland between the Willamette River and the forested hillside, with elevated streets that give many homes views of the river and the Cascade Mountains beyond. The setting is unusual for how close it sits to downtown Portland, which remains just a short drive away despite the neighborhood's quieter, more removed feel.

Forest Park rises directly behind the neighborhood, giving Linnton residents some of the most direct trail access available in Portland without needing to drive anywhere first. The St. Johns Bridge connects the neighborhood to Cathedral Park across the river, its Gothic-style towers visible from much of Linnton's elevated terrain.

The Linnton Community Center has been hosting neighborhood gatherings since 1926, and that history continues to shape a community that values its own gatherings and traditions more than most newer Portland neighborhoods. St. Johns and Northwest Heights are both close by for additional dining and services.

Industrial Heritage
In the early 1900s, Linnton attracted several oil companies and lumber mills, significantly boosting its population and industrial significance.

Founding of Linnton
Established in 1843 by Peter Burnett and Morton M. McCarver, the neighborhood was named after U.S. Senator Lewis F. Linn.

Historical Significance
The St. Johns Bridge, completed in 1931, is one of only three major highway suspension bridges in Oregon and serves as a major thoroughfare connecting Linnton to other parts of Portland
