Buckman Is as Close to the Center of Southeast Portland as You Can Get

Buckman is one of Southeast Portland's older neighborhoods, established in the late 1800s, and the residential streets still show it. Victorians, Old Portland foursquares, and Craftsman bungalows make up most of the housing stock, with modern infill scattered throughout. It borders Sunnyside, Kerns, and Hosford-Abernathy, and sits close enough to downtown Portland that the commute by bike or transit is genuinely easy.

Revolution Hall anchors the neighborhood's cultural identity, a converted 1920s high school that now draws national touring acts and has become one of the better mid-size venues in the city. Buckman Arts Magnet Elementary pulls families who prioritize arts integration in public education, which shapes the kind of community that gravitates here.

Colonel Summers Park is the neighborhood's main gathering space, well used for community events, pickup sports, and weekend afternoons. The Vera Katz Eastbank Esplanade runs along the river nearby, giving residents a direct pedestrian and cycling connection along the Willamette. Belmont and Hawthorne, both of which overlap into Buckman's edges, add independent restaurants, cafes, bookshops, and breweries within walking distance.

Buckman homes for sale tend to attract buyers who want walkability, transit access, and proximity to Southeast Portland's commercial corridors without paying the premium that comes with a Hawthorne or Belmont address.
